Standlake F2 - 20/10/19

A total of 16 cars contested the penultimate points-scoring meeting of the season, with the local attendance boosted by Grimley visitors 42 Ashley Greening and 115 Ben Farebrother.

All cars on track for heat 1 and it was pole sitter 38 Gavin Busby who lead into turn 1, with 623 Rob Dobie passing 185 Jess Webb to take 2nd, as further back Farebrother had made the best start from the middle of the red grade and set off chasing the rest of the pack.

A couple of laps in and Dobie got the better exit on turn 2 and took the lead from Busby, with 53 Jamie Robson now behind the pair in 3rd.  From the back of the field, 155 Carl Lewis was starting to make progress – passing 261 Roger Mountney and 509 Jordan Butcher to break into the top 10, as further forward Busby was passed by Greening and 53 Jamie Robson, with the former of the pair then moving Robson wide into turn 1 to move into 2nd.

Leader Dobie was dropped to 4th a short time later as Greening and Robson came by, with 776 James Trigg not far behind in 3rd.  Further back Lewis was making steady progress through the field, reeling in first Busby and then Dobie to claim 4th, as leader Greening went wide into turn 1.  This allowed Robson through into the lead, with Trigg and Lewis also gaining a place.

82 Keith Richens was next to catch Greening, but a tangle on the following lap saw the former spun out on turn 4 where he was collected by 856 Paul Webb dropping both cars out of the running.  The flying 155 car continued his charge to the front, as he first passed Trigg and then Robson to claim the lead – remaining unchallenged as he came through for his 14th win of the season.

Result: 155, 53, 776, 115, 42, 105, 421, 38, 352, 563

With 352 Andy Webb loading up for the day, that left 15 cars for heat 2.  Busby took advantage of his front row start to lead the field into the first bend, with Dobie taking 2nd from Jess Webb – the latter then losing out to Robson and Butcher later in the lap.  Trigg and Greening set about battling over 5th, as Robson passed Dobie for 2nd.

Trigg got the break on Greening and was able to pass Dobie to sit 3rd as Farebrother put the bumper in hard on the 42 car, eventually moving him wide on turn 3.  Robson passed Busby for the lead around turn 2, while previous heat winner Lewis caught an infield marker tyre and was forced onto the middle – re-joining but finding himself well down the order and outside of the points.

Butcher spun onto the infield from the home straight as up front, as Trigg took 2nd from Busby.  Farebrother and Greening were swapping positions every lap behind in the battle for 3rd after both passed Busby, and slowly they reeled Trigg in.

As the 776 car entered the last bend he was hit by Farebrother, spinning him out and causing 421 Gary Webb to collide with the stricken car.  A scramble to cross the line saw Paul Webb and Busby pass both cars, with Trigg managing to recover to still finish behind them in 6th.

Result: 53, 115, 42, 856, 38, 776, 563, 105, 421, 623

15 cars were back out for the final, although Walding pulled off before the start.  Pole sitter Dobie led the field away as Farebrother passed Gary Webb to head the pack of red tops.  3 laps in and Robson caught Busby into turn 1 to take 2nd, the latter losing a further place as Trigg got the better exit and passed the 38 car on the back straight.  The flying Robson soon closed down Dobie, passing him on turn 1 with the chasing pack of Trigg, Greening and Busby also making their way through.

Greening then got the better of Trigg for 2nd as Farebrother snatched 5th place from Dobie.  Gary and Paul Webb passed the latter into turn 1, as the fight for 1st place saw Greening put the bumper in hard on Robson several times; although he found himself unable to move the 53 car wide.

Lewis passed Paul Webb before Farebrother went too deep into turn 3 and found himself losing out to the former as well as Gary Webb.

Result: 53, 42, 155, 421, 115, 856, 105, 38, 776, 509

The Grand National again fielded 15 cars and Dobie took the early lead ahead of Jess Webb, as Walding got a slow start from the front of the reds allowing Farebrother and Paul Webb through.

Trigg passed Busby and Jess Webb for 2nd while Paul Webb reeled in Farebrother.  Williams and Gary Webb had both made strong starts and were looking to carve their way through to the front – passing first Mountney and then Richens and Jess Webb a lap later.

Up front Dobie and Trigg had built up a length-of-the-straight lead and Trigg moved Dobie wide to lead on the exit of turn 4.  The aforementioned Williams and Gary Webb were now sitting 4th and 5th having caught Busby, who found himself also under attack from Farerbrother and Paul Webb.

Richens tangled with Greening which ended his race, while Lewis and Robson had now broken into the placings from the lap handicap, passing Walding in the process.  Dobie lost out in the fight to hold 2nd, as Williams and Gary Webb came through, with Farebrother not far behind.  As the latter battled with Dobie he ran out of track and collided with the armco on the back straight – Jess Webb having nowhere to go and crashing into the stricken 115 car.

With 3 laps to go, Trigg finally lost the lead as Gary Webb bested both him and Williams, with the latter then coming through on the back straight for 2nd.  This is how it would finish, with Gary Webb coming through for a 3rd win of the season.

Result: 421, 105, 776, 155, 856, 42, 53, 563, 623, 261
