A
healthy 16 car turnout for the second F2 Stox outing of 2019. A slightly
lower turnout than March 3rd was not helped by the clashing Grimley and
Swaffham and previous night’s Ringwood meetings.
There
was a surprise track debut for former Swaffham points champion 206 Michael Lee,
as well as a first ever F2 meeting for H1 Dom Yiannari in the Butcher hire car.
A
full 16 for heat 1 with 105 Louis Williams besting fellow pole sitter 185 Jess
Webb into turn 1. Further back, track champion 421 Gary Webb got to the
front of a large pack of red tops and set about reeling in the early
leaders. 82 Keith Richens had made a good start from blue and after 3
laps was into 3rd place behind Williams and 509 Jordan Butcher. A lap
later Butcher was moved wide by 82 and was relegated to 5th behind 563 Keith
Walding and 623 Rob Dobie.
While
Williams now seemed to hold a sizeable lead at the front, 421 Webb had taken
4th from Dobie, but Richens was in fact closing the 105 car down, with Walding
chasing both in 3rd – the trio holding almost ¼ of a lap over Gary Webb.
On lap 10 Richens made his move, diving up the inside of Williams to take the
lead, but as the pair came around turns 3 and 4, Williams made a move on the 82
car, spinning him out of the lead and in fact, out of the race altogether –
Richens eventually coming to a stop on the home straight. The resulting
scramble saw Williams retake the lead, chased hard by 352 Andy Webb, Walding
and Gary Webb.
With
3 laps to go, Williams was finally reeled in by the Webb brothers, falling back
into 3rd and it was there he would stay, as 352 Andy lost the lead to 421 Gary
and despite a last bend effort, that was how it was to finish. 421 Gary
Webb taking his first win of the season from 352 Andy Webb and the impressive
105 Louis Williams.
Result:
421, 352, 105, 563, 856, 261, 516
All
16 were back out for heat 2 which saw 521 Phil Trigg making a good start from
pole, being chased hard by 105 Williams and 509 Butcher, the latter clipping an
infield tyre on the exit of turn 4 and dropping himself way down the
order. This allowed 623 Dobie to inherit third ahead of 82 Richens and
185 Jess Webb.
521
Trigg’s lead was to last until lap 3, when the rapid Williams took the front
and set off to clear some distance between himself and the chasing pack.
Dobie bested Trigg for 2nd, with Richens, 563 Walding and 421 Gary Webb close
behind. Gary Webb moved Walding wide to take 4th as Richens took 3rd from
Trigg and then dived into second behind Williams as he moved Dobie wide
also.
No
one was going to catch Williams however – the flying white grader had built
himself a quarter of a lap lead that he was never to lose – leaving the rest of
the field fighting for the lower places. Richens' bad luck continued as
he was spun round by Gary Webb and Dobie found himself stuck on the outside
line allowing 856 Paul Webb, 516 Andrew Cornock and 206 Michael Lee to move up
and dropping him out of the running at the front.
With
just 3 laps remaining, 516 Cornock claimed 2nd from Gary Webb and it remained
unchanged until the final bend, when 421 made good contact with Cornock’s rear
bumper, shoving him wide and relegating him to 4th, allowing Webb to cross the
line in 2nd ahead of bother 856 Paul.
Result:
105, 421, 856, 516, 206, 352, 563
The
final saw the grid headed by 521 Phil Trigg with 105 Williams starting a few
car lengths back. It didn’t seem to slow him down much however and he
claimed the lead on turn 1. Further down the field 261 Roger Mountney got
away at the front of the reds, but was soon reeled in as the Webb brothers in
352 and 421 both continued their good form to move up the places. 563
Walding was another to make an early break, working his way up to 2nd behind
Williams after only a couple of laps, having passed both 623 Dobie and Trigg in
the process.
The
105 car gradually started to pull away from the chasing pack, holding a
length-of-the-straight lead from Walding, Gary Webb, 516 Cornock and Andy Webb
as 261 Mountney was forced to retire with a flat rear tyre.
With
5 laps to go, 82 Richens spun again on the exit of turn 4 as Gary Webb and
Cornock got past Walding, who then had had Andy Webb shove him wide at turn
1. Cornock was on the move and bettered Gary Webb for 2nd place, as 856
Paul Webb moved inside Walding to hold 5th place. This is where they
would all finish, Williams having disappeared off into the distance to claim a
heat and final double.
Result: 105, 516, 421, 352, 856, 563, 206, 623
