A RARE OUTING FOR 394 KEN EDWARDS |
Heat 1 saw 19 cars out on a very damp track, and it was 716 James Muckian who took advantage of his downgrading to white, to lead from pole into the first turn ahead of Trigg and 210 Patrick Somerton. The track soon caught a few out as 856 Paul Webb was the first to spin, before Trigg lost 2nd as he went around on turn 3 and was soon joined by 623 Rob Dobie. Mulley gained on Somerton for 2nd, before the latter lost out to 416 Dave Muckian and 2 Craig Passey.
Mulley was then passed by Muckian and Passey around turn 2,
as Izzy Jackson gained on the former later in the lap to sit 4th. 82 Keith Richens moved Will Jackson wide for 6th,
before the pair snatched a place from Mulley, who then spun on the back
straight. Up front James Muckian was
showing his wet-weather experience as he continued to extend his lead further
over Passey in 2nd. Richens
then gained on Izzy Jackson, who in turn lost out to brother Will in the battle
for 5th.
With the red grade pack now starting to catch those in front,
421 Gary Webb passed 352 Andy Webb for 8th, while 105 Louis Williams
snatched 5th from Izzy Jackson into turn 1 and then claimed 5th
from Will Jackson on the exit of turn 2.
Andy Webb then lost out to Paul Webb as Mulley and Dobie both spun on
the home straight in separate incidents.
Izzy Jackson came under attack into turn 3, losing 3 places in a single
corner as the train of red graders came through.
As the lap boards came out, James Muckian was now starting
to lap his way through the lower places of the top 10. With 2 laps remaining, 714 Louis Rayner spun
on the home straight as Passey lost 2nd to Dave Muckian, before the
#2 car spun on the back straight and dropped right down the field. Will Jackson was next to spin, dropping
himself from 6th to outside the top 10. No one could get near to James Muckian, as he
came through for a comfortable flag-to-flag win, managing to lap up to 5th
place in the process, ahead of Dave Muckian and Williams who snatched 3rd
from Richens late on.
Result: 716, 416, 105, 82, 856, 421, 352, 2, 42, 252
18 cars took to the track for heat 2 and from his 2nd
row start it was Trigg who led into the first turn, passing 321 Maisie Emms and
744 Harry Adams on the start. Emms
dropped back to 5th after the first corner as James Muckian and Izzy
Jackson gained, while 185 Jess Webb claimed 6th from Watts. The latter then came under attack from
Butcher and Ryan Stoodley on the next corner, as Greening spun into turn 1 and
dropped to the very back of the field.
This allowed 563 Keith Walding to gain, passing Andy Webb and 420 Ade
Baker on the exit of turn 2.
Muckian passed Adams for 2nd into turn 1 a lap
later, with Jackson also gaining on the 744 car. Emms was then under attack from the yellow
graders behind her as Webb, Stoodley and Butcher all passed underneath on turn
3. Walding then got very sideways out of
turn 4 and dropped to the back of the field, as Paul Webb now took up the
position of leading red grader. Jess
Webb then continued her progress as she snatched 4th from Jackson as
Passey spun on turn 2. Walding and
Greening moved into the top 10 as they gained on Emms and Andy Webb, while
Butcher was another turn 2 spinner.
Greening moved Baker wide a lap later, before Walding also made his way
through ahead of Baker shortly afterwards.
With 5 laps remaining Stoodley moved Adams wide on turn 3 to
claim 4th. The latter was
then under attack again into turn 1, as Jackson and Paul Webb went to dive
underneath. However, Webb tangled with
the 744 car and the pair were forced out.
Jess Webb inherited 3rd as a result and then snatched 2nd
from Muckian 2 laps from the end.
Walding got back in front of Baker for 7th into turn 1 on the
final lap and as Trigg came through to take his first ever F2 victory, 2nd
place Webb spun on the final turn and found herself stuck on the infield with a
broken halfshaft. 3rd place
Muckian got held up because of this, allowing Stoodley through to claim 2nd
in Webb’s absence and Jackson snatched 3rd with Muckian eventually
crossing the line in 5th.
Result: 776, 535, 252, 42, 716, 563, 420, 321, 352, 210
776 JAMES TRIGG'S VICTORY IN HEAT 2 WAS HIS CAREER FIRST |
REPAIRS FOR 185 JESS WEBB AFTER HEAT 2 |
Heat 3 saw 17 cars back out and it was Adams who got the better of Emms to lead into turn 1. Baker was slow away from the front of the red grade and was passed by Williams and Walding on the opening bend. Dave Muckian passed Watts for 3rd before Walding gained on Williams. Richens snatched 4th from Watts as the pair moved past Mulley, who dropped back quickly as those behind gained places. Butcher was reeled in by Jess Webb and Ryan Stoodley as Walding moved underneath Tom Stoodley on turn 1 and then took Butcher into turn 1.
Adams quickly opened up a decent lead out front as those
behind gave chase. Watts lost out to
Webb and Ryan Stoodley on turn 1, before Walding and Williams also moved up on
the 486 car around turns 3 and 4.
Muckian was passed by Richens and Webb who now sat 3rd and 4th
respectively, while Walding and Williams swapped places as they moved ahead of
Muckian and Ryan Stoodley as Williams broke into the top 5 as leading red
grader.
Webb and Richens were then under attack from Williams and
Walding as they both dived underneath on turn 1 to take up 3rd and 4th. Ryan Stoodley then spun on turn 2 as Jess
Webb lost out to Gary Webb and Baker.
With the lap boards now out, Adams was comfortable out front, but Emms
was under threat in 2nd as Williams moved her wide on turn 3 to take
over the place. Richens was reeled in by
Gary Webb and Baker on the back straight as Mulley went into the fence.
Watts passed Muckian in the battle for 9th as
Walding snatched 3rd from Emms in the closing stages. Jess Webb was able to gain 7th
back from Gary Webb as Adams came through for a runaway victory and his first
ever F2 race win ahead of Williams and Walding.
Result: 744, 105, 563, 321, 82, 420, 185, 421, 486, 509
Unfortunately, the rain started to fall just before the
final, leaving a very wet track and cars on a variety of setups. 25 cars made it out in what were very
difficult conditions. Dave Muckian made
the best start from the 2nd row of the white grade and passed
Somerton and Izzy Jackson into turn 1, while Jess Webb was a first lap spinner
and Walding was very slow away from the red grade. Dave Muckian lost the lead to son James on
the back straight, while Izzy Jackson, Mulley and then Dave Muckian were all spinners
before the end of the opening laps.
This shuffled the leading pack up and now saw Trigg 2nd
with Somerton 3rd and Emms sat 4th although she was
another who spun, allowing Richens up into 4th. Andy Webb gained on Paul Webb for 7th
as the leading red grader before there were yet more spinners. Adams spun on turn 4 as Roff and Butcher also
went around. Ryan Stoodley was able to
gain on Richens and now sit 3rd as Somerton dropped back slightly. Paul Webb and Greening gained on Andy Webb,
before Greening bested Paul but then lost out to both Webbs as the places
changed several times within the lap.
Despite all this place swapping, the trio were able to reel in Richens
as Paul Webb eventually ended up 4th.
The 82 car then came under attack from Williams who claimed
7th, as James Muckian extended his lead out front to over half a lap
from 2nd placed Trigg. Will
Jackson then gained on Richens as Gary Webb and Baker moved ahead of Passey as
the pair battled to break into the top 10.
The conditions then caught out even more drivers as Richens was first to
spin on turn 3, before Adams and Roff went around on turn 4.
Trigg lost 2nd place to Ryan Stoodley as Paul
Webb came through for 3rd, although Stoodley then slowed which
allowed Webb through for 2nd and Trigg back ahead into 3rd,
with Andy Webb also gaining for 4th.
Rayner spun on turn 3 and Jess Webb spun again on the home
straight. Williams moved Stoodley wide
on the exit of turn 4, the latter also being bested by Greening on the next
corner.
Walding then spun on turn 3 as Stoodley reclaimed 4th
from Andy Webb, having regained on Williams and Greening. Tom Stoodley moved into 8th ahead
of Will Jackson as Andy Webb was dropped to 6th behind Williams and
Greening, who continued to swap places.
With just over a lap to go, Paul Webb spun out of 2nd place
on turn 4. Although he did keep going,
he was now down into 10th as Trigg and Ryan Stoodley took the lower
steps of the podium behind another dominant performance from James Muckian, who
won by nearly ¾ of a lap.
Result: 716, 776, 535, 105, 42, 352, 534, 421, 299, 856
A DOMINTANT DISPLAY FOR 716 JAMES MUCKIAN WITH A HEAT AND FINAL DOUBLE |
Despite the rain seemingly coming down harder and harder, a
hugely impressive field of 20 cars made the Grand National. Unfortunately, the rain beat me, so the
following is from memory!
Pole-sitter Somerton was beaten into turn 1 by Izzy Jackson,
while at the back of the field Williams was slow away and dropped well behind
the remaining red graders. Walding spun
on turn 3 after a few laps and then retired shortly afterwards, while Jess Webb
was another spinner, this time on the home straight.
Up front Tom Stoodley slowly made his way through the white graders and then took the lead from Jackson with only a few laps left. Rayner was another spinner as Butcher ran Jackson close for 2nd but could not get close enough to make a move. Stoodley came through to take his first win, from the pairing of Jackson and Butcher while James Muckian and Ryan Stoodley just broke into the top 10 from the lap handicap, taking 9th and 10th respectively.
Result: 534, 252, 509, 856, 421, 82, 42, 352, 716, 535
