Ringwood F2 - 6/08/22

A slightly disappointing 23 cars were in the pits, leaving 10 no-shows on the day for what – at the time of writing – is the final curtain call for F2s at Ringwood. Despite this, there were some impressive travelling efforts. 744 Kyle Taylor and 819 Daniel Hewitt made their track debuts on a visit away from their local Barford track, as did Standlake’s 101 Zak Moores, while there were new cars for 386 Adam Huxtable and 915 Dave McNally.

IMPRESSIVE NEW CAR FOR 386 ADAM HUXTABLE

All cars were on track for heat 1, with McNally getting the better start ahead of 593 Matt Boddington to lead into turn 1. 210 Patrick Somerton passed 138 Gary Tweddle on the exit of turn 2 as 150 John and 151 Andy Enright gained on 352 Andy Webb into turn 1. 508 Terry Butcher moved inside 185 Jess Webb on turn 4 as 594 Dan Boddington retired.

84 Stuart Langridge moved ahead of Matt Boddington for 2nd, as Tweddle lost out to Moores and Butcher on turns 1 and 2 respectively. Butcher then picked off the 101 car a lap later, although the pair briefly tangled with assistance from 82 Keith Richens, which saw the 508 car sideways on across the back straight together with Moores.

This shuffled a few places in the mid pack, as 280 Pete Webb now moved into 6th ahead of the Enright brothers. 595 Jack Boddington picked off Matt Boddington and then Langridge for 2nd on turn 3, while Somerton lost out to both Enrights around turns 3 and 4. Matt Boddington passed Lagridge for 3rd as Pete Webb was reeled in by the 150 and 151 cars on turn 3 and Taylor gained on Somerton on the back straight.

John Enright then moved into 3rd as he reeled in Matt Boddington and Langridge on the back straight, with Andy Enright then picking off both the latter pair later in the lap, before Langridge was a spinner on turn 2. Jack Boddington continued to slowly close down McNally’s lead and right at the death made a move on turn 2 and took up the running to take his 4th win of the season ahead of McNally and John Enright.

Result: 595, 915, 150, 151, 593, 280, 744, 82, 352, 12

HEAT 1 WIN FOR 595 JACK BODDINGTON

A reduced field of 18 cars made it back out for heat 2, although Jack Boddington was forced off before the start with a puncture. McNally again got the jump on Matt Boddington to lead into the first corner, as the latter lost out to Langridge for 2nd on turn 2. Jess Webb then passed 47 Rich Howard into turn 1 to move 6th, with Butcher also gaining on the 47 car down the back straight.

John and Andy Enright exchanged places on turn 1 as Pete Webb reeled in 258 James Griggs and Richens was an early retirement with engine issues. Griggs was then passed by both Enright brothers on turn 3 as Jess Webb moved ahead of Moores into turn 1 into 4th. The 101 car was then reeled in by Somerton and Butcher down the back straight, before Howard also made a move around turn 3.

Moores continued to come under attack from those behind as Andy Enright and Pete Webb gained places around turn 3, with John Enright then picking up a place into turn 1, leaving the 101 car to slip outside of the top 10. The red grade trio then picked off Somerton over the next lap, as Andy headed the group in 6th place. Langridge lost 3rd to Jess Webb on the following lap as Andy Enright passed Butcher on turn 4 and Taylor moved Moores wide on turn 1.

Andy Enright passed Langridge to move into 4th on turn 3 as Griggs passed Somerton for 9th, before Langridge lost out to Butcher on turn 1 and then Pete Webb and John Enright on turn 2 as the 84 car dropped to 8th while Taylor gained on Somerton for 10th as the lap boards were shown.

Somewhere unseen, Jess Webb dropped a number of places with 2 laps remaining, moving Andy Enright into 2nd as he passed Matt Boddington on turn 4, who also then lost out to John Enright on the final lap to slip to 4th. 242 Mick Jackson reeled in Somerton right at the death for 10th as Langridge lost out to Taylor. No one was getting near to McNally though, who took an impressive first race win ahead of Andy and John Enright.

Result: 915, 151, 150, 593, 280, 508, 258, 744, 84, 242

915 DAVE MCNALLY TOOK HIS NEW CAR
TO A FIRST EVER RACE WIN IN HEAT 2

The last ever Final saw 17 cars back out on track and this time Matt Boddington took the early lead ahead of Langridge and McNally, while further back Moores reeled in Jack Boddington and 295 Leo Freebody on the opening corner to climb into 5th. At the end of the opening lap Jack Boddington and Jess Webb tangled on the exit of turn 4, which also saw Dan Boddington involved and brought out the red flags.

With Jess Webb the only one of the trio able to continue, 15 cars contested the restart as Matt Boddington led from McNally and Langridge. Andy Webb lost out to Andy and John Enright around turns 1 and 2 as Moores passed Langridge down the home straight to claim 3rd. Jess Webb passed Richens and Freebody on the back straight, with the latter also losing out to the Enrights on turn 3, who gained on Richens shortly afterwards as the pair moved to 7th and 8th respectively.

Andy Webb gained on Richens for 9th on turn 2 as Taylor also moved ahead of the 82 car on the next corner. Butcher passed Langridge and Moores on the inside of turn 1 to move up into 3rd as Andy Enright and Moores then tangled on turn 3 and came to a hault in the middle of turn 4 with both cars stuck together.

This brought out the yellow flags and on the restart Butcher picked off McNally for 2nd on turn 3 as John Enright also came through on the 915 car on turn 4. A lap later and Butcher took the lead on the exit of turn 4 as Enright moved Boddington wide into turn 1 to climb into 2nd. McNally lost 3rd to Jess Webb on turn 2 as Boddington went wide into the corner and allowed Andy Webb and Taylor through into 4th and 5th respectively.

Enright slowly closed down Butcher over the final lap and put the bumper in on turn 3 to snatch the lead as Butcher rattled the fence but kept going to come home 2nd behind Enright, who took his first win of the season. Jess Webb completed the podium places and Taylor ended his long trip south with a meeting-high 4th place.

Result: 150, 508, 185, 744, 352, 915, 242, 82, 593, 84
