Ringwood F2 - 11/02/23

A slightly disappointing turnout of 8 cars graced the track for the first meeting of the 2023 season at Ringwood; whose future continues to remain in doubt.  210 Patrick Somerton and 253 Charlie Heffer were the only recognised visitors, alongside the local entry that included reigning Ringwood points champion 151 Andy Enright.

A FIRST VISIT OF THE SEASON FOR STANDLAKE
RACER 210 PATRICK SOMERTON

All cars made it on track for heat 1, although 593 Matt Boddington pulled off before the start.  756 Ryan Mulley got ahead of 594 Dan Boddington to lead into turn 1, as further back Andy Enright gained a place on 150 John Enright.  On lap 2, Heffer lost out to Andy Enright on turn 2 and Somerton reeled in Dan Boddington to move up into 2nd on the exit of turn 4.

Andy Enright then passed 595 Jack Boddington to take 3rd with the latter also coming under attack from Heffer and John Enright down the back straight.  Dan Boddington then retired with engine trouble as Somerton dropped back to 3rd behind Andy Enright as the 151 car moved ahead into turn 3.

John Enright bested Heffer around turns 1 and 2 as Andy Enright dived inside Mulley to take the lead on turn 4.  John Enright then gained on Somerton for 3rd on the following lap on turn 3, before moving ahead of Mulley for 2nd as the pair entered turn 1.

The race then turned into a battle for the lead between the Enright brothers and for 3rd between Somerton and Jack Boddington.  As the laps closed down Boddington reeled in the 210 car to snatch 3rd late on but John was unable to catch Andy as the 151 car crossed the line to take the win just 1 car length ahead and take the first win of the season.

Result: 151, 150, 595, 210, 756, 253, NOF

REPAIRS FOR 593 MATT BODDINGTON AFTER HEAT 1

Only 7 cars returned for heat 2 with Dan Boddington out for the remainder of the meeting.  Mulley again too the lead into turn 1 as Somerton quickly moved up into 2nd as he passed Matt Boddington into turn 3.  On the following lap Jack and Matt Boddington swapped places for 3rd into turn 1, with Somerton then taking over the lead as he squeezed inside Mulley at turn 1 on the following lap.

Matt Boddington then retired as Heffer lost out to both Enright brothers around turns 3 and 4 and Jack Boddington then snatched 2nd from Mulley shortly afterwards.  As the 150 and 151 cars caught Mulley into turn 1, the former tried to pass around the outside, but tangled with the 756 car and spun on the exit of turn 2.  Andy then passed Mulley on turn 1 of the following lap to move into 3rd.

As the lap boards came out, Heffer reeled in Mulley on turn 4, the latter then spinning on turn 3 on the following lap.  The remaining laps ticked off without change as Somerton maintained his lead out front and came across for his first win at the track, ahead of Jack Boddington and Andy Enright.

Result: 210, 595, 151, 253, 150, NOF

All 7 remaining cars made it back out for the final, although Heffer pulled off almost immediately, having picked up a puncture on the rolling lap.  Mulley took the early lead again as Somerton moved ahead of Matt Boddington for 2nd on turn 2, the latter spinning on the exit of the corner.  Somerton's progress continued as he moved Mulley wide on turn 3 to take the lead.

A couple of laps later Jack Boddington passed the 756 car for 2nd on turn 1, with the latter also losing out to Andy Enright shortly afterwards.  John Enright then moved into 4th as he passed Mulley down the back straight.  Andy then bested Jack Boddington for 2nd into turn 1 as Mulley was forced to retirn with running problems.

As the laps ticked by Somerton's lead was reduced by the chasing trio as Andy Enright eventually took the lead as he moved inside the 210 car on the home straight, before John Enright claimed 3rd from Boddington into turn 1.  With 3 laps left Somerton lost 2nd to the 150 car on turn 1.  Boddington then put the bumper in on Somerton into turn 1 on the following lap but failed to make the move stick, before repeating the move on the final lap and again Somerton held on, keeping just enough of a gap to hold the 595 car at bay as Andy Enright took his 2nd win of the night ahead of John in 2nd.

Result: 151, 150, 210, 595, 593, NOF
